The invisible world of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is becoming visible, thanks to a new wave of sensor technology and AI-driven purification systems.
Commercial buildings in Boston are serving as the testing ground for these new systems. We toured the new TechHub tower, where the HVAC system essentially has an "immune system."
"The building sniffs the air every 30 seconds," explains facility manager Sarah Connors. "If it detects high VOCs in a conference room, it automatically ramps up fresh air intake and activates bipolar ionization in that specific zone."
This granular control not only improves health outcomes but drastically reduces energy waste by only treating air where it's needed.
