In the damp chill of a Seattle winter, a working furnace isn't a luxury—it's a lifeline. For many elderly residents on fixed incomes, a breakdown can force a choice between heat and food.
Enter Evergreen Comfort, a local HVAC company that has turned their slow season into a season of giving. Through their "Warm Hearts" program, they dedicate two weekends every winter to performing free repairs and safety checks for seniors in need.
"It started five years ago when we got a call from a woman who was using her oven to heat her kitchen," recalls owner Mark Stevenson. "We fixed her furnace for free, but it kept me up at night thinking about how many others were in the same boat."
Today, the program has grown to include donated parts from local suppliers and volunteer time from over 20 technicians. It's a powerful reminder that the HVAC trade is, at its core, about keeping people safe.
